Kerry Coaches began in 1957 when Johnny Buckley and his wife Mary B first provided transportation to the visitors in the Killarney area with the traditional horse and cart (locally known as a Jaunting Car). This quickly increased and in 1960 incorporated their first vehicle, a Ford Zephyr. Throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s “JJ Buckley & Sons”, as it was then known continued to expand and added 3 new VW Microbuses.
In 1979, Mike Buckley took over the business from his father and it was renamed “Buckley’s Tours”. The office was based in the front room of Mike’s home and the fleet was now a grand total of 6 vehicles, with seating capacity of 20 people. However, Mike saw an opportunity to expand into full size coaches to cater for larger groups and formed “Kerry Coaches” in the late eighties. Kerry Coaches focused on the booming American market and large group travel and continued to thrive with repeat clients throughout the 1990’s. By the end of the Millennium, Mike and his team began to outgrow the old office and built the custom designed facilities which we still call home today.
Today it is an awarding winning company with over 100 luxury vehicles and 180 experienced and knowledgeable staff members. The Company has two bases, in Killarney and Dublin and is run by Mike, his son Johnny and son in law Veerpal. The core principle of providing a 5-star level of service to all Kerry Coaches passengers remains as imperative today as it did back in 1957 and the next generation will ensure this remains true for many years to come.
